About GACA

Gippsland Alliance for Climate Action is a formal collaboration of councils across Gippsland, established to support regional climate action. GACA was established in 2022, and have five members: East Gippsland Shire Council, Latrobe City Council, South Gippsland Shire Council and Wellington Shire Council and Baw Baw Shire Council.

GACA works with member councils to coordinate climate mitigation and adaptation projects across the Gippsland region. GACA also provides a key platform for communication and collaboration between councils.

GACA also works with other key stakeholders to enhance regional climate outcomes, identify opportunities in the local government space, and share best practice or innovative approaches.

 

Victorian Greenhouse Alliances

GACA is one the eight Greenhouse Alliances across the state who together make up the Victorian Greenhouse Alliances.

The Alliances are an effective model of regional and statewide collaboration, first established in 2000. The Victorian Greenhouse Alliances collaborate to share knowledge across the state, and work together on shared projects, initiatives, and advocacy.

Decision making

GACA members set the strategic direction, priorities, and projects of GACA. Members have equal representation in the GACA Committees and governance structure.

Governance structure

  • Executive Committee: sets and oversees the strategic direction of the Alliance, and makes key decisions about GACA
  • Steering Committee: supports GACA operations, including development of projects
  • Coordinator: 0.6EFT employed to manage all GACA operations and projects
  • Project Working Groups: established to deliver specific GACA projects

Legal status

Gippsland Alliance for Climate Action is auspiced by the Gippsland Climate Change Network, a not-for-profit working on climate action across Gippsland.
